Family spotlight: Luca's sensory improvements

An Italian family documents their 12-week journey from intake to post-therapy speech and sensory progress.

Luca was four years old when his parents first contacted us. He had a confirmed ASD diagnosis, minimal verbal output and significant sensory sensitivities that made daily life — mealtimes, transitions, outdoor trips — unpredictable for the whole family.

His mother, Chiara, describes the period before treatment: "We had tried every local therapy available. Progress was slow. We were not looking for a miracle. We were looking for something that could give Luca a better platform to build on."

The intake process

Luca's biomarker panel showed elevated IL-6 and poor gut barrier integrity. This placed him in the enhanced dosing tier, with a four-week microbiome preparation protocol before his Istanbul visit.

The family arrived for a seven-day programme. Luca received two IV stem cell infusions spaced 72 hours apart, alongside daily occupational therapy and a sensory integration programme.

Weeks one to four

The first observable change, which Chiara noted in the digital dashboard we provide to all families, was sleep quality. By day ten post-infusion, Luca was sleeping through the night consistently for the first time in over a year.

"That sounds small, but when your child sleeps, the whole family sleeps. Everything looks different when you are not exhausted."

Weeks five to eight

At the six-week biomarker recheck, Luca's IL-6 had dropped by 61% and his gut permeability markers had normalised. Clinically, his ABA therapist reported a marked increase in imitation behaviours and a reduction in self-stimulatory behaviours during structured sessions.

Verbal output remained limited, but Luca began using a picture exchange system spontaneously — a behaviour his therapist had been targeting without success for eight months.

Weeks nine to twelve

By week twelve, Luca had added eleven functional words. Eye contact during play had increased to the point where his parents described interactions as feeling genuinely reciprocal for the first time.

Sensory sensitivities around food textures and outdoor noise had reduced substantially. The family reported attending a birthday party — something previously impossible — without incident.

Chiara's reflection

"We did not get a different child. We got more of Luca. He is still himself, still particular about things, still Luca. But there is more access to him now. He lets us in more. That is what we came for."

Luca is now eighteen months post-treatment. He attends mainstream nursery with support and continues weekly ABA and speech therapy. A second stem cell session is scheduled for next spring based on his ongoing biomarker profile.
